Many people suffer from high blood pressure- a condition that could potentially lead to heart attacks, strokes and other diseases. With the right food, high blood pressure could be lowered and a healthier lifestyle could be achieved. The high blood pressure diet is pretty simple with a good outcome, similar to the gall bladder diet.
People who choose to follow the high blood pressure diet should, most importantly, avoid alcohol, excess salt and excess fat. If one has high blood pressure, he should never drink alcohol. Studies have shown that alcohols directly raise blood pressure and damage the walls of the blood vessel, with further raise blood pressure. Salt dehydrates the body. While this is not true for everyone, too much salt could damage the kidney which could elevate the blood pressure problem. Lastly, too much fat should be avoided in any diet. Fat, especially trans-fats, clogs the arteries, causing turbulence in blood flow. This will cause blood to clot and lead to many heart diseases.
According to the high blood pressure diet, one should eat eight to ten servings of fruits and vegetables (including one orange and one dark green vegetable) daily. One should also replace at least half of his grain with whole grains, drink one to two cups of milk and replace most meat with tofu, lentil and etc.
Ignoring one’s high blood pressure is dangerous and leads to serious consequences, including death. But, if you follow a healthy diet mentioned above, even the highest blood pressure could be lowered.
